Stypsi owes its name to "styptiria," that is, the double sulfate of aluminum and potassium, which abounds in its subsoil. It is useful for leather processing and an excellent mordant in dyeing. The residents are mainly livestock farmers, olive cultivators, and excellent stone builders.
